Insert other Gantt charts in WBS

Overview

This document outlines the functionality for a feature that enables users to visualize multiple projects together using Gantt charts. The feature allows for inserting one Gantt chart under a specific task within another Gantt chart, facilitating cross-project tracking and management.

In this explanation, the parent Gantt chart is referred to as the Main Gantt Chart, and the Gantt chart inserted into it is called the Sub Gantt Chart.

Copying the Sub Gantt Chart URL

To insert a Sub-Gantt chart into the Main Gantt Chart, you first need to obtain the URL of the Sub Gantt Chart.
You can easily retrieve the URL through a simple operation on the Sub Gantt Chart.

1. Open the Gantt Chart Editor for the Sub Gantt Chart.

2. Open the Data menu dropdown and click Copy Gantt Data URL.

3. Exit the Sub Gantt Chart.

Inserting the Sub Gantt Chart into the Main Gantt Chart

1. Open the Gantt Chart Editor for the Main Gantt Chart.

2. Select the row that will act as the parent of the Sub Gantt Chart.

3. Open the Data menu dropdown and click Insert Gantt Chart.

4. Paste the URL of the Sub Gantt Chart.

5. Click the INSERT button.

6. Verify that the Sub Gantt Chart has been added as a child of the row selected in Step 2

Removing the Sub Gantt Chart from the Main Gantt Chart

1. Open the Gantt Chart Editor for the Main Gantt Chart.

2. Select the row that is the parent of the Sub Gantt Chart.

3. Open the Data menu dropdown and click Remove inserted Gantt Chart.

Limitations

Please note the following limitations of this feature:

• The Sub Gantt Chart is displayed as read-only within the Main Gantt Chart. Editing actions such as schedule changes, adding dependencies, and linking Jira issues are not allowed.

• If the Sub Gantt Chart contains tasks linked to Jira issues, the synchronization with Jira issue data will still occur in the Main Gantt Chart. However, the Jira sync settings from the Main Gantt Chart will be applied.

• Resources from the Sub Gantt Chart can be displayed in the Main Gantt Chart's resource view. While Confluence users from both charts will be merged, custom resources with the same name will not be merged and will be treated as separate resources.

• Timeline markers from the Sub Gantt Chart will not be displayed in the Main Gantt Chart.

• Multi-level Gantt Chart embedding is not supported. If a Main Gantt Chart (containing a Sub Gantt Chart) is inserted into another Gantt Chart, the Sub Gantt Chart's data will not be displayed in that higher-level Gantt Chart.
